Oak Knoll is just north of the city of Napa and filled with many great, family run wineries. This is a 'must visit' for racing buffs, being Mario Andretti’s winery. It has an Italian-style, even though the section of Italy where their family comes from originally, close to Trieste, is no longer part of Italy. They have nice gardens, cute gifts, tours, and tables.
Be aware that its very convenient location and brand name means that it is a popular stop for tour and wine shuttle buses. However, just because there is a bus parked there doesn’t mean they are in the tasting room, so walk inside and check it out. It is a lot nicer in the summer than in the winter, something about those Tuscan style buildings that feel a little drafty in the cool and wet.
But, generally, this is a very nice experience, good, value wines and very convenient just minutes from downtown Napa. Wines: Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese, Zinfandel-Primitivo Blend. AWG Rating 85
