Ralph & Lahni de Amicis, Napa, Sonoma, San Francisco
Crush 2011 in Napa and Sonoma has been difficult. The vineyards that harvested their thin skinned graped early, with low brix before the rain did great, the fruit looked great although the yeilds were low due to shatter caused by rain during the flowering that made for less than full bunches.
Once the rains hit in early October a lot of the thin skinned grapes were damaged and some yeilds are down as much as fifty percent. Even the rain resistant Cabs are taking a smaller hit due to mold. This is most prevalent on the valley floors where the fog supports the problem. On top of the mountains above the fog line they have fared better. We will see.
