Their beautiful craftsman-style mansion at the corner of Lodi lane and the Silverado Trail is a great landmark. This is the narrowest part of the valley, and across from the vineyards the stone walls tower above the road. They do a wonderfully relaxed, although mildly expensive sit down tasting, either in the sunny salon or out on the patio. The staff is nice, if somewhat still sometimes, probably because the arrangement encourages a feeling of table service, rather than intimate tasting experience. They have a great collection of duck decoys and sculptures.
The wines are very good, and the sight of the beautiful crystal glasses arrayed on the tables is charming. The grounds are lovely and the view over the vineyards in front of the winery makes a real statement; you are in the heart of wine country. The winery was sold in 2008 but the Duckhorn family continues to manage the place. Wines: Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon. AWG Rating 90
