Wonderful Grounds in Sonoma Valley
This is lovely winery specializing in Burgundy and Rhone wines, owned by members of the John Deere family. Sometimes you'll see a green John Deere Tractor parked out front and cute model tractors in the gift shop. They have a bright and airy tasting room and a wonderful staff. The dramatic mural behind the tasting bar is a reason enough to visit.
The winery is built like a classic Spanish compound, with the buildings protecting an inner garden which is perfect for picnics and bocce. These are some of the prettiest and most comfortable winery grounds in wine country. The wines are excellent and have been served many times at the White House.
A hidden treasure is the President's Tower tasting room where a private, sit down tasting for eight can be scheduled. The walls are lined with White House menus from the past twenty years. The views from the tower tasting room take your breath away, including the expanse of the Valley of the Moon with Sugar Loaf Mountain and Hood Mountain in the distance.
For such a low key, and gracious winery, they produce a wonderful winery experience and of course, wonderful wines. You can see the winery from Highway 12, but you need to turn right on Adobe Canyon Road to reach the entrance.
