Matanzas Creek Winery. Lavender and Wine in Bennett Valley from the Sonoma Winery Tour iPhone App
This good sized winery is located about 15 minutes west of Glen Ellen along a narrow road that is a bit of a winding ride, but well worth the trip. It is a beautiful, Asian style building with extensive lavender gardens, pretty grounds, great views, gift shop and tours. Not surprisingly, they also offer estate made lavender products along with their seriously good wines.
Take the time to stroll through the lavender gardens, with their lovely views of the Bennett Valley. Inside the tasting room beyond the tasting bar, look at the educational displays and the nice gift section. From here, you can either return to the Sonoma Valley or continue on Bennett Valley Road to Santa Rosa, Highway 101 and the Russian River Valley wineries.
Wines: Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Rosé. AWG Rating 90
Driving Hint: To reach Santa Rosa turn right out of the winery and follow Bennett Valley Road. Make sure that you turn left at the light where Bennett Valley Road makes a turn. Then turn right at Farmers Lane and you will see the entrance to Highway 12 North (Actually heading West here) on the left just past the overpass.
This can either take you to Highway 101 North and Healdsburg, or continue on Highway 12 to the charming town of Sebastopol. There you will turn right on Highway 118, Gravenstein Highway north into the Russian River Valley.
