Great Views and Carneros Pinot
They are a Carneros Estate Winery, wonderfully convenient to San Francisco. Many of their grapes grow on the gorgeous hillsides right outside the charming tasting room door. They have a very knowledgeable staff that has been with them for quite a while, with excellent wines and a great, German-style building.
Schug was the founding winemaker at the revered Joseph Phelps Winery in Napa, and was involved in the production of Napa's first Bordeaux blend. However, his great love of the Burgundy wines, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, led him to open his own winery in this pretty valley.
This is a great first or last stop on a San Francisco tour. The wines are well-made and a good deal. They do tours by appointment. They have great views of Carneros and the Bay and they are just minutes from Cornerstone, Gloria Ferrer, Jacuzzi and Cline.
