The Wine Survivor Book was built as a Game and Team Building Tool. Using it a group of co-workers or friends goes on the road in Napa & Sonoma in separate cars. Then, using strategy, tactics, timing and entertaining communications, they set out to have the best wine tour ever, while besting the competition.
The day begins with a brief review of the part of the book that explains what makes a great tour. This gives everyone a chance to become familiar with the questionnaire, score sheet & maps.
Ideally, there are two or more groups of four to six people. Each car needs a designated, or preferably a professional driverwho strictly abides by the 'no alcohol rule'. Using the questionnaire they survey the team members experience and preferences and develop a plan. Then they load into cars and head out to wine country.
When we lead this as tour guides we do a brief wine tasting class at the first winery, so if you are driving yourself use the first winery to make sure everyone is conversant with tasting technique. At each winery each person grades their individual experience.
The whole group meets for a picnic lunch, which provides an opportunity to compare notes and revise the afternoon itineraries. The team whose scores, when averaged out, shows the greatest amount of cooperative enjoyment, is the winner.
The best prize is a bottle of wine signed by everybody and presented to the designated driver. When we do this as a team building everyone in the winning car gets a signed bottle of wine.
